Best Bowl Ever
I don't know if it was the "best bowl ever," but it was pretty damn good. A mixture of Puerto Rican style braised beef with sweet potato hash & sofrito. I liked the flavor of the meat. It was not chewy and had the perfect amount of spice. The sweet potato hash was simple and when mixed with the meat and sofrito it added a little bit of sweetness to an overall tasteful meal.
Island Thai Chicken Burger
This ground chicken burger was seasoned with interesting spices that gave it a zesty kick. As a side they paired green beans tossed with tomatoes and garlic and nice little bit of mango salsa. The spice of the burger with the sweetness of the mango salsa really worked nicely together. I haven't had much "island food" and was not sure what to expect flavor-wise, but I was happily surprised by this dish.
Beef Lo Mein
This was one dish I was sure I was not going to like, but would still shovel it down anyway. I have to say this dish was really good. There was a very nice vegetable stir fry as a side which was comprised of zucchini, onion, red bell pepper, sugar snap peas, carrots. When mixed with the Coconut-Cashew sauce (which surprisingly had very little coconut flavor to it), it made for a delicious and filling side dish. The meatballs are what really pushed this dish over the top into one of my favorite meals yet. These were made with grass-fed ground beef, all-natural ground pork, red wine vinegar, garlic, egg, extra virgin olive oil, ginger powder, salt, red pepper flakes, black pepper. All the ingredients together made a fantastic tasting meatball. I think the one spice that really gave these meatballs an interesting, but delightful and new flavor was the ginger. It was only a small hint in each bite, but it was enough to really make the meatballs stand out from what you are used to.
